How it works

The program’s own rules, as Catalyst runs them.

Train four times a week in Lower, Upper, Full Body and Arms order, never three days in a row. Choose the number of sets within each exercise’s range and keep your exercise choices consistent for six to eight weeks. Start with roughly two repetitions in reserve. With dynamic double progression, each set has its own weight: when that set reaches the top of its rep range, increase only its weight next time. With ordinary double progression, keep one weight across all your chosen sets and increase it once every set reaches the top. Choose the next heavier weight so you return to challenging reps near the bottom of the range. You may skip optional movements. Before using clusters or zero-rest squats, decide how you will perform them, including their count or song duration; these have no fixed amounts.

What you need

Everything its exercises call for. Missing something? The app suggests swaps that train the same thing.

  • Adjustable bench
  • Barbell
  • Cable stack
  • Dumbbells
  • Hip adduction/abduction machine
  • Squat rack
